Well, if you're going to be reading this blog, it probably wouldn't hurt you to know a few things about me. Hopefully this will put my views/opinions/etc into some perspective.
I was raised by absolutely amazing parents. My mother is Mormon and my father is a Born Again Christian. They divorced when I was about five, mostly for religious reasons. When people ask me what it was like growing up with divorced parents, I'm never quite sure how to respond. From what I can tell, my parents' divorce was amazingly clean and charitable. They treated each other with dignity and respect.
Growing up I spent alternating weekends with each of my parents. As a result, I was raised in two seemingly opposed faiths. At a young age I took it upon myself to decide what was right for me. Because of some very real, very personal experiences, I opted for Mormonism.
So I did the whole Mormon thing. I didn't date until I was sixteen, and generally only dated good Mormon girls. I applied and was accepted to Brigham Young University. I attended for a semester before embarking on two of the greatest years of my life. That's right, I'm all sorts of cliche when it comes to my mission. I loved it. I loved the people, the language, the culture. I was lucky enough to be called to the Texas Houston Mission, Spanish speaking. It was great.
After my mission I returned to BYU to continue studying Civil Engineering. After a few years of misery and not caring about my major, I finally changed my major to Teaching Physical Science. I hope to one day teach high school chemistry and physics. That gets us up to somewhere in the 2012-2013. After a number of experiences throughout 2013 (some of which may come up in various posts), I came to accept that I am gay.
So yeah. That gets us up to about where this blog starts now.
